Palestine a realistic Film takes its title from a 1929 religious propaganda film made by the British Evangelical Missionary Film Committee which set out to film the “biblical Palestine” and document Christian missionary activities in the region. Appropriating scenes from the only existing copy of the film, the work juxtapose the historical footage with a present- day voyage in the West Bank undertaken by Palestinian ophthalmologic, working for the British-Christian St.John’s eye Hospital in East Jerusalem.

The work explores the enduring presence of biblical fantasy and the legacies of European colonialism in the Middle East, asking questions regarding the way history is imagined and represented.
